Η ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΕΤΑΙΡΕΙΑ ΧΕΙΡΟΥΡΓΙΚΩΝ ΛΟΙΜΩΞΕΩΝ ιδρύθηκε το 1989 με έδρα την Αθήνα ( Καταστατικό ίδρυσης: 16807/ 23 Αυγούστου 1989), με πρώτο Πρόεδρο και ουσιαστικό Ιδρυτή τον αείμνηστο Καθηγητή Χειρουργικής Χρήστο Πισιώτη. Είναι η πρώτη χρονικά ιδρυθείσα Εθνική Εταιρεία στην Ευρώπη με αντικείμενο τις Χειρουργικές Λοιμώξεις. Με βάση το καταστατικό της, εκλογές Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου γίνονται κάθε δύο χρόνια, κατά την διάρκεια των εργασιών του Πανελληνίου Συνεδρίου Χειρουργικών Λοιμώξεων
